Does Sterling Silver Tarnish?
Sterling Silver will Tarnish eventually, especially in Florida's absurd humidity. It won't Tarnish as quickly in drier climates like Arizona and New Mexico.
To Slow the Tarnishing Process, we ship all Sterling Silver Jewelry in Small Anti-Static Zip Lock Bags, WITH Anti-Tarnish Strips. We reccommend you store your Jewelry in these Bags, with the White Side of the Strip Facing the Jewelry. This will Slow the Tarnishing Process Greatly, but not Eliminate it.
All Steling Silver Components we use are stored in these Bags, with the Strips, immediately upon receipt from our Suppliers. After Jewelry Designs are created, they go into their own Bag, with their own Strip. These are the packages you will receive.
Are Silver Cleaners Safe For Silver?
Most Liquid Silver Cleaners contain acids, and produce toxic gasses when applied to the Silver. The Cleaner also removes any Anti-Tarnish Coatings placed on the Silver during manufacture. If not used properly, the Cleaners can also etch the Silver, causing it to Tarnish more quickly in the future. We prefer not to use these Cleaners.
We do reccommend the use of a Silver Polishing Cloth to gently remove Tarnish, and return the Jewelry to it's Bright and Shiny Condition. Light Tarnish is easily removed with a gentle 30 second to 60 second buffing.
Are Silver Cleaners Safe For Gemstones and Pearls? What About Swarovski Crystals?
Typically, Liquid or Paste Silver Cleaners can destroy Pearls, Opals, Amazonite, and othe fragile Gemstones. Once the surface is damaged by the Cleaner, the Pearl or Gemstone will pitt, and become discolored and brittle. Some Cleaners will etch Swarovski Crystals, especially the Aurora Borealis and Satin Finishes.
We prefer not to use these Cleaners.
Again, we reccommend the use of a Silver Polishing Cloth.
You don't have to rub and scrub to remove Light Tarnish. A 30 second to 60 second light buff is usually sufficeint.
